1 victim, suspect dead following mass stabbing in Manitoba First Nation: RCMP

RCMP in Manitoba are comfirming multiple people were stabbed on a First Nation northeast of Winnipeg Thursday morning, and one was killed. RCMP said at least six victims were transported to hospital in Winnipeg. “One victim is deceased,” the RCMP said in an updated news release said. “The suspect is also deceased.” RCMP have promised to release more details at a news conference at their headquarters in Winnipeg Thursday afternoon. “Our sincere condolences to everyone within the community of Hollow Water First Nation and to everyone who has been affected by this senseless act of violence,” the release added. RCMP said they responded to urgent calls Thursday morning from the Anishinaabe community two hours northeast of Winnipeg. They described the scene as a “mass casualty event” with numerous victims being sent to hospital in Winnipeg. “We have RCMP officers at scenes within the community as well as on Highway 304, just south of Black River First Nation,” the latest release said. “Our officers are gathering information to determine what exactly occurred this morning and we will be providing a more detailed update early this afternoon.” -More to come The Hope for Wellness Helpline is available for crisis counselling to all Indigenous people across Canada.
