Article contentArticle contentArticle content“This is one more way we’re making universal access to mental health and addictions care a reality here in Nova Scotia,” Comer said.Article contentRecovery support centres offer a variety of services depending on the needs of the community in which they are located.Article contentCentre staff, which can include physicians, nurses, social workers and administrative support, provide in-person assessments and group programs, along with harm reduction and recovery supports. Article content“Our vision over the last three years has been to build an equitably accessible, low-barrier model of care based in community settings,” said Dr. Dave Martell, physician lead of addictions medicine in Nova Scotia Health’s mental health and addictions program.Article content“From North Sydney to Yarmouth, Nova Scotians living with addictive disorders and their loved ones have access to care that addresses their unique needs and is delivered by a multidisciplinary team with expertise in managing addiction,” Martell said.Article contentArticle contentThe Truro location, along with new walk-in centres opened in Amherst, Springhill and Yarmouth, push the province-wide locations to 12 in the provincial government’s efforts to create universal access to mental health and addictions.Article contentArticle contentThe other walk-in clinics are located in Dartmouth, Halifax, Lunenburg, Middleton, New Glasgow, North Sydney and Sydney, and Evanston in Richmond County. “I’m proud of the work our health-care partners are doing every day to make a difference in people’s lives,” Comer said.Article contentThe government says the recovery centres have supported more than 2,290 unique clients through 11,433 visits across the province as of June 30.Article contentThe walk-in clinics have varying hours as clinical teams are expanded.Article contentAppointments can be made by calling the provincial mental health and addictions intake service at 1-855-922-1122 or booking at https://prebooking.nshealth.ca/.
