(Hanna Petersen/CBC)Thirteen people have been displaced by a fire on the third floor of a supportive housing building in Prince George, B.C.Prince George Fire Rescue says they were called to 160 Ontario St. at about 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, with 15 firefighters from three halls responding.No injuries were reported and the building was saved, but the city says smoke and water damage is estimated at $50,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.The building, near the city’s downtown core, was opened in 2022 by the city and B.C. Housing to deliver “50 urgently needed, purpose-built supportive homes for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness,” connecting them with support services and skills training, as well.When a CBC News reporter visited the scene, no external damage was visible.The number of people displaced was initially estimated at 15 but B.C. Housing later updated the number to 13. In a statement, the agency said the city’s emergency support services is providing immediate support for the impacted residents, while B.C. Housing and the building’s operator, the Connective Support Society, are working to secure temporary accommodations while the investigation and repairs are underway.
