(Kaoru Suzuki/Mino Bimaadiziwin Partnership)Manitoba RCMP have charged a 19-year-old man with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of a 37-year-old man in Wasagamack Anisininew Nation on Friday. Wasagamack resident Coden Wood, 19, was arrested on Friday and was remanded in custody, RCMP said in a Sunday news release. A previous release on Friday did not disclose the accused’s name or age. Police were called to the northern Manitoba First Nation, located about 470 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg in the Island Lake region, around 12:30 a.m. on Friday following reports of gunshots and a man who was found dead outside a home in the community, RCMP said in the earlier release. On Friday, Anisininew Okimawin Acting Grand Chief Alex McDougall called the shooting a “tragic incident.” He said the community, especially the victim’s extended family, will require a lot of support in the wake of the fatal shooting. Police said Sunday that major crime services and Island Lake RCMP officers are still investigating. More from CBC Manitoba:
