(Ian Froese/CBC)Two men have been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a man and a woman in the rural municipality of Victoria Beach earlier this year, Manitoba RCMP say.Nathoniel More-Harrison, 31, and Mitchell Johanson, 28, were arrested in the double homicide of Sly Thibert and Melissa Wilson, police said at a Wednesday afternoon news conference.Thibert, 29, and Wilson, 41, were found dead in the Sandy Bay cottage area, about 100 kilometres north of Winnipeg, in the early hours of June 20. RCMP Staff Sgt. Sean Grunewald said Wednesday police believe the suspects targeted Thibert, and that Wilson was killed because she was at his home when More-Harrison and Johanson arrived. The motive is still under investigation, said Grunewald.The victims were friends, and they and the two men accused all lived in the area and knew each other, he said.”These homicides have deeply affected two grieving families, countless loved ones and created concern for so many residents in the Victoria Beach area and the province,” Grunewald said at Wednesday’s news conference.Johanson, from Grand Marais, Man., was arrested in Abbotsford, B.C., on Oct. 7. More-Harrison, who is from the RM of St. Clements in Manitoba, was arrested in the Nova Scotia village of New Minas on Wednesday morning, police said. Johanson has been remanded in custody and returned to Manitoba pending a court appearance, RCMP said. More-Harrison will be returned to Manitoba for a court appearance.Grunewald asked any residents with information into the deaths to contact RCMP.
