Legislature for District 2, Georgetown-Pownal.The seat was left vacant after the resignation of former provincial housing minister Steven Myers in October. Nominations closed at 2 p.m. Friday, and each of the four main political parties on the Island have confirmed candidates for the Dec. 8 vote. The candidates include: Eddie Childs (Green Party). Brendan Curran (Progressive Conservative Party). Robert Mitchell (Liberal Party). Kevin Trainor (NDP). Advance polls will take place on Nov. 29, Dec. 1 and Dec. 5. Voting will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. each of those days. Residents in District 2 who are registered with Elections P.E.I. should receive a voter information card in the mail. The card will include voting times, dates and locations specific to their civic address.Advance and voting day poll times and locations are also available on the Elections P.E.I. website. Eligible voters can also cast ballots by mail if they complete an application form available on the website by 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 25.The byelection results won’t change the balance of power in the province. Premier Rob Lantz’s PCs have a majority in the 27-seat legislative assembly with 19 seats, compared to four for the Liberals and three for the Greens.Mitchell, a former Liberal MLA and cabinet minister from 2007 to 2020, won the party’s leadership race back on Oct. 4, but he has not been elected to the P.E.I. Legislative Assembly.
