Photo by Vivian Ulinwa /The GuardianMore than 900,000 students across Canada took part in Student Vote Canada 2025, including hundreds across Prince Edward Island, casting ballots for real federal candidates days before the country’s general election.While students nationally elected a Conservative minority government, youth voters in P.E.I. favoured the Liberal party, which won three of the province’s four federal ridings. Cardigan and Charlottetown each had 14 schools take part.At the national level, the Conservative party, led by Pierre Poilievre, received 36.4 per cent of the popular vote and won 165 seats in the mock election, enough to form a minority government. Poilievre won in his home riding of Carleton, Ont.The Liberal party, led by Mark Carney, won 145 seats and 31.7 per cent of the vote, forming the official opposition.
