City of Whitehorse seeking public input on future budgets

What is wrong with Whitehorse? The more charitable version of this question is: In your opinion, what could the city do to make living here easier? Regardless of your answer — a new bike path, new downtown parkade, the schedules of a city buses — the city wants to hear it. The City of Whitehorse is seeking budget input as it drafts the next capital and operating budgets. Capital refers to the infrastructure the city spends money on, whereas operations refers to services provided. The most recent operating budget caused a stir as it raised bus fares and property taxes for Whitehorse residents. Residents of Whitehorse are now able to share their two cents about specific things what they want to see happen in the city in the next few years. There’s a variety of ways to do so: residents can post suggestions regarding projects and services on the budget ideas page of engagewhitehorse.ca. People can also email budgetideas@whitehorse.ca. People can come to the public input session which will be held in person at city hall to provide feedback on proposed budgets after they’re released by the city. The capital budget is usually released in the late fall and the operations budget around January. If you want your idea to be considered for the 2026-29 Capital Budget and the 2026-2028 Operating Budget, you must submit it before May 31. Contact Talar Stockton at talar.stockton@yukon-news.com
