Jason MalloyKings District RCMP are charging a Canning youth and commending a young victim following an alleged sexual assault June 6.According to a news release, a youth was arrested on June 12 and a search warrant was carried out at a Canning home, where items relevant to the investigation were recovered.The accused, whose identity is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with assault, sexual assault and disguise with intent. In the June 13 news release, the RCMP commended the victim.“The courage the victim showed in fighting off their attacker was tremendous,” says Southwest Nova District Supt. Jason Popik. “Sexual assaults are an afront to society and, as in this case, have the power to inflict paralyzing fear in a community.”They also pointed to the quick actions of the victim and their family in helping to solve the crime.Article content
