Disruptions expected for commuters as Dutch Village Road project ramps up

Photo by George MyrerCommuters will experience disruptions for the next five weeks as work continues on the Dutch Village Road Complete Streets project.The project will improve safety and address active transportation and transit gaps along Dutch Village Road. Westbound traffic will still be able to turn onto Dutch Village Road from Joseph Howe Drive.Detour signage will be in place and personnel will be on-site to direct traffic. Drivers should expect delays and use alternative routes. At least one accessible sidewalk will remain open at all times.Periodic detours for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists.Will I be able to access businesses during the project?Access to businesses and properties will be maintained throughout the project.What are the major outcomes of the Dutch Village Road Complete Streets project?A sidewalk on the west side of the street, addressing the current sidewalk gap.Raised protected cycle lanes on both sides of the street.New accessible concrete bus stop pads.Shortening existing pedestrian crossing distances and adding accessible pedestrian signals.Additional high-quality pedestrian crossings.Improved connections to the Chain of Lakes Trail.On-street parallel parking spaces to replace the perpendicular parking spaces which are encroaching on the right of way.Streetscaping elements, such as benches, trees, planters, waste receptacles and pocket parks.Article content
