He was also an assistant captain with the team.Before joining the IceHogs, the six-foot-one, 200-pound Fitzgerald played four seasons with the Chicago Wolves. He won a Calder Cup with the Wolves in 2022.Article contentOverall, Fitzgerald has 41 goals and 118 points in 373 games in the AHL.Cape Breton connections traded in the MJHLThree players with Cape Breton connections were traded in the Maritime Junior Hockey League this month.Former Cape Breton West Islanders forward Jack Hayne along with David Lebel were traded to Chaleur as completion of a previous trade made between the Amherst Ramblers and the former Fredericton Red Wings, now known as Chaleur.Hayne, an Antigonish product, had 14 goals and 31 points in 43 games with Amherst last season. He also played seven games with the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League’s Moncton Wildcats, posting one assist.Meanwhile, former Cape Breton Eagles forward Jude Campbell along with Nathan Mossey, a fifth-round pick in 2025 and a conditional fourth-round pick in 2026 were traded to the Valley Wildcats from the Summerside Western Capitals for Coen Miller.Article contentCampbell, 20, appeared in 37 games with the Western Capitals last season, posting four goals and 13 points in 37 games. He also had a goal and two points in five playoff games.Former Eagles draft pick Dawson Grandy was traded to the West Kent Steamers along with Max Hanley and a first-round pick in 2025. In exchange, Valley receives Michael Arsenault and Joseph Breen.More trades are expected to be announced this week across the MHL.Cape Breton junior ‘B’ hockey teams busyCape Breton’s junior ‘B’ hockey teams have been busy with transactions over the last month in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League.On May 30, the Eskasoni Eagles placed Dylan MacLean and Kyle Rudderham on waivers.Meanwhile, on May 22, the Eagles traded the No. 2 overall waiver pick to the East Hants Penguins in exchange for the No. 5 overall waiver pick and future considerations.Also on May 22, the Strait Pirates acquired Jaxson Prior from the East Hants Penguins for the No. 5 waiver pick, which was traded to Eskasoni.The same day, the Pirates traded Manny Strong and future considerations to the Membertou Jr. Miners for a 2025-26 waiver pick (full year), Mitchell MacDonald, the rights to Kyle Nearing and future considerations.In other league news, East Hants placed former Cape Breton Eagles first-round draft pick William Shields on waivers.Article content
