Standout Westisle student-athlete wins Brodie McCarthy Student-Athlete Award

McCarthy was in Grade 12 and scheduled to graduate from Montague Regional High School in June 2018.Article content“I am honestly so proud to represent this award and honour his name,” said Hardy, who was recently named Westisle’s 2024-25 female athlete of the year.Article contentThe 17-year-old daughter of Philip and Wendy Hardy of Freeland, P.E.I., was one of 13 nominees. Every P.E.I. high school can nominate one student for the award.Article contentAll nominees had their inspiring bios read and those in attendance were presented with a keepsake award by Brodie’s parents, David and Lisa McCarthy.Article contentArticle content“There were so many great candidates,” said Hardy. “I know, literally, anyone here could have gotten it, and I would have been so happy for them.Article content“Honestly, I was so honoured to receive this award.”Article contentMulti-sport athleteArticle contentCorcoran said Hardy has been a multi-sport athlete at Westisle since arriving for Grade 10.Article contentIn the 2024-25 school season, Hardy wore the Wolverines’ blue and gold colours in nine different sports – cross-country, golf, soccer, basketball, powerlifting, badminton, track and field, rugby and played in the high school friendship hockey tournament. Hardy also plays hockey outside of school.Article content“Her time management skills are second to none,” said Corcoran. “She added training for powerlifting as a school sport this year while playing basketball and hockey and never missed a single workout from the first of November until powerlifting provincials in February.
