(Aya Dufour/CBC)A man is dead after first responders were dispatched to a call about two people in the water near Westboro Beach on Wednesday afternoon. At 2:43 p.m., the Ottawa Police Service said on X there was an active water incident near the beach. An ambulance and an underwater search and recovery unit vehicle could be seen south of the beach near the Kichi Zibi Mikan. The Ottawa Paramedic Service later confirmed they got a call at about 1:40 p.m. about two people in the water. They found an eight-year-old boy in the area and were able to rescue a 27-year-old passerby who had gone into the river to help the child, paramedic Paul Morneau said. The other adult in the water was later found unconscious and could not be resuscitated, despite CPR efforts that lasted about 20 minutes.With files from Aya Dufour and Radio-Canada
