A severe thunderstorm watch covers much of the surrounding area. A severe thunderstorm is possibly producing a tornado in eastern Ontario. Environment Canada has issued a tornado warning for communities such as Merrickville and Oxford Mills.If a tornado forms, residents are advised to stay away from exterior walls and windows, ideally in a basement or on the ground floor, and to get out of vehicles. Here’s what to do during a tornado alert There is a severe thunderstorm warning for other parts of eastern Ontario and a severe thunderstorm watch elsewhere.These watches mean a severe storm is possible, while a warning means one is happening or likely about to happen.People should get indoors when thunderstorms approach, according to Environment Canada. If caught outside they should protect themselves from hail and wind-blown debris while avoiding standing under a tree or gazebo.There have now been been multiple local thunderstorm alerts in the past week.Heavy rains have also fallen recently on other parts of the region, with both Maniwaki and Pembroke recording more than 80 millimetres of rain Sunday and Monday.
