‘Always here for you’; Community supports owner of Cape Breton shop after robbery

So far, no one has responded back — but MacKenzie said the police investigation is ongoing.Article contentSOCIAL MEDIA SUPPORTArticle contentSoon after noticing the break-in, MacKenzie said she took to social media last Thursday mainly to let her customers know what was going on.Article content“Unfortunately, I got broken into last night (July 9),” she posted on a Facebook reel as well as on TikTok. “So The Brew and Bubble will be closed today (July 10) because it sucks, and I’ve got to deal with all this stuff that comes with that.”Article contentArticle contentThose posts, MacKenzie said, prompted an outpouring of endearing messages of support not just from customers and locals but from a whole host of others who follow her postings.Article content“Always here for you and if you ever need anything,” one commenter said.Article content“You are a wonderful person! Because the customers I have are kind, funny, friendly and supportive and enjoy what I do. That’s a blessing.”Article contentMacKenzie explained that she does have video cameras on the premises, and hopefully any footage from those cameras will help in the police investigation.Article contentArticle contentAs she leases the Townsend Street location, she said her landlord acted swiftly to help replace the damaged front door that same day.Article content‘I DON’T WANT TO LOSE MORE MONEY’Article contentHowever, she said her insurer told her that because the cash amount stolen (which she didn’t specify) didn’t qualify as much damage, she couldn’t immediately recoup on those losses.Article content“I was lucky to have not lost a huge amount, but yeah basically they were like, ‘It’s not worth it,’ which is sad,” MacKenzie said. “It wasn’t a huge chunk, but a chunk to a small business makes a difference.”Article contentStill, she has since kept The Brew and Bubble in operation despite the incident — and has vowed to keep more of a vigilant look out for any potentially suspicious activity.
