Failure to provide proper training, supervision, information, and facilities to ensure safety. Failure to review and revise the OHS program at least once every three years. Failure to ensure use of protective clothing and devices for worker safety. Failure to enforce safe work procedures at the site. Failure to promote safe interaction between workers and their environment. Failure to ensure personal protective equipment (PPE) met recognized standards and provided effective protection. Failure to ensure tools and machinery were used per the manufacturer’s instructions. In a social media post at the time, NL Hydro confirmed the death and sent condolences to the man’s family and friends.Article contentOn July 21, 2025, NL Hydro provided an update on the incident through a press release.Article contentThe statement said that NL Hydro received the charges from OHS, is reviewing them and will address them through the court process.Article contentAccording to the statement, NL Hydro’s top priority is the safety of employees and contractors, and the company will continue to work hard to “live our values and support safety culture.”Article contentNL Hydro’s statement said the incident, which they called a tragedy, still weighs heavily on them.Article contentOHS has also ordered changes that NL Hydro must follow going forward.
