They are from Antigonish, where their father Brad is the longtime head coach of the St. Francis Xavier X-Men.Article contentArticle content“I thinks there’s a ton of excitement for the whole family,” Islanders general manager Jim Hulton said. “You could hear it in their voices when everything got done. It was a complicated double deal to put together. We’re talking three months now. But I think it’s a unique opportunity for anybody that has a brother in the same league. Just being able to get to play together at this level and close enough that your parents can be at a lot of games, it’s a chance of a lifetime.”Article contentArticle contentTyler is a 20-year-old forward entering his fifth season in the league. When the deal for Brady came through at the draft, we were also looking to get bigger and needed some punch up front from our overage position so that led us to the natural next step of going after Tyler.Article content“It took us a while to get it done but I think the combination of the two is a real upgrade for us.”Article contentArticle contentTyler was a seventh-round pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2023 but wasn’t signed to an entry-level contract. He is a six-foot-one, 209-pound forward who had 29 points in 54 games last season in Saint John.Article contentHe started his major junior career in 2021 with the Drummondville Voltigeurs after they drafted him second overall. He had 35 points as a rookie and set a career high with 41 as a sophomore before being dealt to the Sea Dogs midway through the 2023-24 season.Article contentHe plays a physical game and was an assistant captain with the Sea Dogs this past season so he can also contribute in the leadership department for the Islanders this year.Article content“I think we all look at a kid who was moving in the right direction early in his career — 24 goals in his 17-year-old season — but for whatever reason, sometimes when kids get moved to a new spot they lose their confidence and there’s not a lot of rhyme or reason to it,” Hulton said.
