(Prostock-studio/Shutterstock)There were four new cases of measles confirmed in Manitoba last week, provincial health officials said in an update Wednesday. There have been five confirmed cases so far in August, with no probable cases reported, Manitoba Health data shows. So far in 2025, there have been 171 confirmed cases of the disease, according to the data, which covers the year until Aug. 9. There have been 11 probable cases. Measles is a highly infectious disease that spreads through air droplets when someone coughs, sneezes or talks. If you are exposed to measles, symptoms typically show up within seven to 21 days. Symptoms may include a fever, runny nose, drowsiness and red eyes, according to Manitoba Health. The province says vaccination is the only way to protect people from contracting the disease.Last week, the province said anyone who was at the Boundary Trails Health Centre, between Winkler and Morden, on Aug. 4, between 6:20 p.m. to 10:40 p.m. may have been exposed to measles. The province has reported eight measles exposures at that health centre this year. A list with detailed information on the locations, times and days where the public might have been exposed to measles is available on the province’s website.More from CBC Manitoba:
