Residents in the area were told Wednesday night to be prepared to evacuate should conditions change.Article contentPeople in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality started noticing a strong smell of smoke Thursday morning. Multiple calls to fire services were made reporting the smell, however, no fires had been found as of 10 a.m. Christina Lamey, communications for the CBRM (Cape Breton Regional Municipality), confirmed with first departments no active burns were known of at that time. The smell of smoke, similar to a campfire, along with the hazy sky, is believed to be from wildfires in New Brunswick.
