(Shane Hennessey/CBC)The annual Gold Cup Parade will take to the streets of Charlottetown on Friday, Aug. 15, starting at 10 a.m., though road closures and bus route changes will start a few hours before then.Road closures along the main parade route and the adjacent intersections will begin at 8 a.m.The Gold Cup Parade is a long-standing part of Old Home Week, which runs from Aug. 8-16 and ends with the Gold Cup & Saucer harness race at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino.Most workers in Charlottetown get the day off for the parade, if they didn’t take a stat holiday on the first Monday in August.Here is a list of roads that will be closed for the duration of the parade: North River Road from McGill Avenue to Brighton Road Brighton Road/Euston Street from North River Road to Great George Street Great George Street from Euston Street to Grafton Street Grafton Street from Great George Street to Pownal Street Pownal Street from Grafton Street to Fitzroy Street Fitzroy Street from Pownal Street to Terry Fox Drive Terry Fox Drive from Brighton Road to Kent Street The City of Charlottetown posted on Facebook that as a result of those road closures, access to and from the area bordered by Euston Street, Great George Street, Grafton Street and Rochford Street will also be restricted between 8 a.m. and about noon, including: Fitzroy and Kent Streets between Rochford and Great George Streets Pownal and Queen Streets between Euston and Grafton Streets In addition, the city says that in order to allow for the staging of parade entries, North River Road between Belvedere Avenue and McGill Avenue, as well as Kirkwood Drive between North River Road and Trafalgar Street, will be closed to all traffic beginning at 6 a.m.Registered parade entries can still get through, though.Some T3 Transit routes will also be temporarily changed, as described in this notice to passengers:Charlottetown Police Service members, city crews and volunteers will be in place along the route, and the city warns that there will be zero tolerance for aggressive behaviour. It says drivers who do not abide by the road closures will be ticketed.This year’s parade theme is “Let the Music Move You.” Renowned P.E.I. singer-songwriter Lennie Gallant has been selected as the parade marshal.
