(The Canadian Press)The annual Capital Pride Street Festival and parade takes place this weekend, causing some disruption to traffic in the downtown core, with some road closures starting from Friday afternoon. The main disruption will be the closure of Bank Street between Slater Street and Gladstone Avenue from 3 p.m. on Friday.More streets will be closed on Sunday for the staging of the Pride parade. The route this year starts at the intersection of Elgin Street and Laurier Avenue W., proceeding north along Elgin past the National War Memorial before heading along Wellington Street past Parliament Hill, then south on Kent Street to end at the intersection of Kent and Albert streets. The following streets will be closed on Sunday: From 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.: Laurier Avenue W. between Nicholas and Elgin streets. From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.: Elgin Street between Laurier Avenue W. and Wellington Street. Wellington Street between Mackenzie Avenue and Lyon Street. From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.: Kent Street between Wellington Street and Laurier Avenue W. Slater Street between Kent and Metcalfe streets. OC Transpo buses will continue on schedule over the weekend, with some detours:  Routes 6, 7, and 11 will be detoured due to the closure of Bank Street between Slater Street and Gladstone Avenue until 12:30 a.m. on Monday. For routes 6 and 7, northbound buses will use Metcalfe Street and southbound trips will use O’Connor Street. For route 11, eastbound buses will use Kent Street and westbound buses will use Lyon Street. Routes 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 14, 18, and 19 will be detoured to adjacent streets for the duration of the Pride parade from 12:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.  There are Para Transpo stops at the National Arts Centre on Elgin Street, on O’Connor Street at Laurier Avenue W., and on Gilmour Street at Derby Place.The Capital Pride Street Festival and Parade will cause some disruption to traffic this weekend from Friday afternoon onward.
