(Submitted)Ontario’s police watchdog has cleared Ottawa police officers of criminal wrongdoing for shooting a man downtown in late April.Police shot and seriously wounded a 24-year-old man outside the Rideau Centre shopping mall the afternoon of April 29.The province’s Special Investigations Unit said in a news release Monday no charges are being recommended against two officers. The investigation deemed police had grounds to to act as they did. The man had an air pistol that looked like a firearm and was walking around the Parliament Hill area of the city with it, wrote director Joseph Martino.When police confronted him, the man resisted and grabbed the air pistol from his  pocket, at which point the officers fired a total of seven shots.”Each officer would have been rightfully concerned that their lives and the lives of others in the vicinity were in immediate danger,” Martino said.More to come.
