(Charles Contant/Radio-Canada)RCMP have called off the search for a possible missing boater in the waters of Egmont Bay following a two-day search, saying they have found no evidence anyone was ever in trouble.”A search of the waterways as well as surrounding land did not yield a boat, a boater, a truck or trailer,” said Cpl. Gavin Moore, media relations officer for the P.E.I. RCMP.”To date, there has not been a reported missing person from P.E.I. or New Brunswick, and as of today, Monday, the search efforts were ceased.”The search began around 8:45 p.m. on Saturday, after a witness reported seeing a dory offshore from Enman Shore Road in North Enmore. In a news release Sunday, RCMP said the witness reported that a man had been seen on board and that the vessel didn’t move for several hours as darkness fell, which was considered unusual. The witness also reported seeing what they believed to be distress flares in the area, police say. Police say the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre was engaged, and the Tyne Valley Fire Department and RCMP carried out a “comprehensive” two-day search.’Having checked in with that community [and] searched the area, we are confident that there is no person missing at this time,’ said Cpl. Gavin Moore, media relations officer for the P.E.I. RCMP. (Connor Lamont/CBC)Moore encouraged anyone with information related to the boat sighting to reach out to RCMP.”Any information that can help fill in the details of this situation are appreciated.”He added that RCMP are grateful for these types of calls and take them seriously.”It’s very important that all Islanders be vigilant and be out looking out for each other.”ABOUT THE AUTHORMarilee Devries is a journalist with CBC P.E.I.
