(Giuliana Grillo de Lambarri/CBC)Parts of Dartmouth, N.S., were evacuated for several hours on Tuesday afternoon due to a natural gas leak.Halifax Regional Police said the gas leak was in the area of Pinecrest Drive and Jackson Road.The following areas were evacuated: Albro Lake Road, Pinecrest Drive, Crystal Drive and across Albro Lake as far as Lancaster Drive.Halifax Fire Deputy Chief Dave Meldrum said the call came in about the leak at 1:32 p.m. AT.In a post on social media, Eastward Energy said the leak was caused by third-party damage to a gas line at the intersection of Pinecrest Drive and Jackson Road. In an update at 3:20 p.m., the company said the damaged section of pipe has been isolated and there is no further release of natural gas. “Repair work is now underway, and our operations and construction teams will remain on site until service is safely restored to all affected customers,” the company said. The evacuation order was lifted at 4:45 p.m. after firefighters ensured there was no residual natural gas in the neighbourhood or in nearby structures.
