In a news release, Shawnigan Lake RCMP said they were called to the 4100 block of Hillbank Road, a rural area on southeastern Vancouver Island, on Monday night just after 8:30 p.m. PT. Police said the child was rollerblading with their family when they were hit by a Honda Civic that lost control, eventually hitting a telephone pole. The driver and passenger of the car, both 17, were taken to hospital with minor injuries. B.C. RCMP Cpl. Alex Bérubé said police do not believe alcohol was involved in the crash. However, they think speed was a factor. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Shawnigan Lake RCMP.
