Only 1 fire out of control in N.B., 9 total active

(Government of New Brunswick)There are nine fires in the province with only one burning out of control, down from two yesterday.The Beaver Lake Stream fire has grown to 456 hectares, up from 338 hectares on Tuesday, and remains out of control. It is remotely located in Northumberland County, near the Kennedy Lakes Protected Natural Area.The Rocky Brook fire, which was out of control at 175 hectares on Tuesday, is now contained. The blaze, about 40 kilometres south of Dalhousie, is now listed at 204 hectares.According to the province’s website, a fire is contained when it is surrounded by barriers like bulldozer breaks or hose lines, which are expected to keep it from spreading further if firefighting efforts continue. The fire is still actively burning and it could potentially jump or spread.The Oldfield Road and Chief’s fires have been contained for days and are now under control. The Oldfield Road fire, in the Miramichi area, is more than 1,400 hectares in size. According to the province’s fire watch website, under control means that there is a “control line surrounding the fire.” “The fire’s activity is low with only occasional flare-ups. The chance of the fire jumping or escaping is very low.
