(David Bell/CBC)A 27-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder after a man was found dead inside a home in Opaskwayak Cree Nation on Sunday night, Manitoba RCMP say.Manitoba First Nations Police Service officers were alerted to a deceased man in a home in the First Nation just before 9 p.m. on Sunday, RCMP said in a news release on Thursday. The community is about 520 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg.Officers from the RCMP’s major crimes unit were called in to help with the investigation. An autopsy confirmed the man’s death was a homicide, RCMP said.Police said the victim, a 34-year-old man, was socializing with three other people when a fight broke out and he was shot.Wyatt Campbell, 27, was arrested in Moose Lake and charged with second-degree murder. He was remanded in custody until his court appearance, RCMP said.Opaskwayak Cree Nation said in a news release posted on social media that police are “cautiously controlling the amount of information being released” while the investigation continues.It encouraged residents to co-operate with the investigation “by refraining from posting on social media, as information may not be accurate,” and said to share any information they may have with the Manitoba First Nations Police Service via their tip line at 1-833-978-0048 or tips@mfnp.ca.
