(CBC)A 40-year-old woman has been charged with assault after she lit another woman’s wig on fire with a butane torch in an unprovoked attack in downtown Winnipeg Friday afternoon, police say. Around 4:30 p.m., the 40-year-old verbally confronted a 50-year-old woman standing on a sidewalk in the 200 block of Hargrave Street, between Portage Avenue and St. Mary Avenue, police said in a news release. The women did not know each other.The argument escalated and the assailant lit a wig the victim was wearing on fire with a portable butane torch, according to police.The victim quickly removed her wig to avoid being burned, but the other woman physically assaulted her. The victim fled and called police.The 40-year-old woman was found nearby around 5:15 p.m. and arrested, police said. She has been charged with assault with a weapon. She was released on an undertaking to appear in court at a later date, police said. More from CBC Manitoba:
