(David Lipnowski/The Canadian Press)A 19-year-old man is facing charges of bestiality and other animal cruelty-related charges, after police allege he committed sex acts on his cats.According to a Winnipeg Police Service news release, police were informed in June by the Winnipeg Humane Society’s animal protection services that a man had been taken to hospital with injuries caused by an animal he owned. Police say the humane society learned through its investigation that the man had allegedly committed sexual acts on animals in his home, one of which resulted in his injuries. On June 13, police officers accompanied the humane society’s animal protection officers to the home and removed two cats and a kitten, the news release said. The animals were seen by a veterinarian and then taken to the humane society. On Aug. 28, police officers from the sex crimes unit arrested the man, who is now facing charges of bestiality, causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, and inflicting on an animal acute suffering, serious injury or harm, or extreme anxiety or distress that significantly impairs its health or well-being.The man has been released on an undertaking.
