Residents are asked to continue conserving water to help replenish the tanks more quickly.” Article contentBusinesses have been directed to remain closed, except for pharmacies, which are limited to urgent prescription services, and gas stations, which may operate for fuel sales only.  Article contentBusinesses operating under these restrictions must provide hand-washing facilities and toilet services for staff. Article contentLEAK TRACED TO KEY SUPPLY PIPE Article contentMayor of C.B.S. Darrin Bent, had described the urgency of the situation on Tuesday, saying, “We probably have somewhere around two, maybe three hours of water left for the entire town.” Article contentArticle contentThe issue was first detected around 12.45 p.m. Tuesday, when the St John’s Regional Water Authority noticed a sharp drop in water flow to Conception Bay South.  Article contentCrews from both municipalities traced the leak to a pipe supplying the town’s main storage tanks, which serve its entire population. Article content“The water was just flowing through, you could see it,” Bent said.  Article content“Our tanks were not filling up, and normal use was depleting our reserves.” Article contentOTHER TOWNS PROVIDE SUPPORT Article contentNeighbouring municipalities, including Torbay, St John’s and Holyrood, have sent water tankers to support fire services while repairs are completed. Article content“We’re very grateful to these partners,” Bent said.  Article content“We’ve been depending on each other quite a bit over the last few weeks with wildfires, and now they’re coming to our aid with water.” Article contentFurther updates are expected later Wednesday as water levels are restored. Article content
