(Matéo Garcia-Tremblay/Radio-Canada)Two Gatineau police officers who shot and killed a man who was stabbing a third officer last fall will not face criminal charges, according to Quebec prosecutors and the province’s police watchdog.Prosecutors said the officers’ use of force was justified because the surprise attack on their colleague on Oct. 23, 2024, put them in danger of serious harm or death. Two reports on the incident, one from the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI) and another from the Directeur des poursuites criminelles et pénales, were released Wednesday. In October, Gatineau police said the officers had been called to rue Saint-Rédempteur in the city’s central Hull neighbourhood just before midnight. The BEI said in its own news release that the original 911 call was about someone making disturbing comments. The officer who was stabbed suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries in the attack.Gatineau police were the first to respond to the call, but other agencies become involved in the investigation.
