Article contentArticle contentArticle content“And people are slowly finding us, it seems,” he added. “We had a sign at the old library, but sometimes people don’t realize there is a backside to the Aberdeen Business Centre.” Article contentOnce someone does drive around to the back, the Centre is located at 610 East River Road; it’s easy to locate the library with a large sign indicating its location. Article content“We’re trying to get some information out about that,” Stackhouse said about the location, speaking on Aug. 27. “Right now, we have quite a good crew in here. They are enjoying the air conditioning and putting on a lot of great activities and things like that. So far, so good, things are working out well.” Article content The New Glasgow Public Library’s temporary location is in the Aberdeen Business Centre, around the back. Article content“Currently, they’ve done the demolition inside; they’ve brought it down to its bare walls,” he said. “And they’re taking the mechanical systems out.” Article contentArticle contentStackhouse said work on the roof has also begun. Article content“And they should be doing some excavation,” he said. “There is a small bump out that is going to be created out to Archimedes Street. The excavation for that should begin on the Tuesday after the (Labour Day) long weekend. Article content“So, things are going on schedule and we’re still looking at about – to be on the safe side- two years. We’re about a month or two into it, so we’re hoping they’ll be able to get it done a little faster than that, of course, but we’ll see.” Article content Construction taking place at the library on Dalhousie Street in downtown New Glasgow. Article content“Fathom Studio, an architecture firm, has been working hard on gathering information and feedback on the future design and functionality of the library. Fathom, along with staff from the Town of New Glasgow, PARL headquarters, and New Glasgow Public Library, have met with many community groups to better understand what our community needs are and how the library can help support the community, our citizens, and the many groups and services that benefit from the library and its programming,” the website message reads. Article content“Based on the significant community consultation sessions, the new design will be a reflection of various communities that form the many social aspects of New Glasgow. With investment from federal, provincial, and local governments, New Glasgow Public Library and headquarters will be renovated to serve as the New Glasgow Destination Centre.” Article contentThe library officially closed its location on Dalhousie Street on June 14 and reopened in the Aberdeen Business Centre on July 2.
