(Darren Bernhardt/CBC)Officials are investigating after a vacant house in Winnipeg’s William Whyte neighbourhood caught fire early Saturday morning — the sixth time that building has caught fire in less than two years. Winnipeg firefighters were called about the latest fire at the house in the 400 block of Redwood Avenue, between Aikins and Andrews streets, just before 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, the city said in a news release.Two homes were on fire when crews arrived, one of which was vacant and boarded, the city said. Firefighters declared the fire under control an hour later, with no injuries reported. No damage estimates are available, the city said. The vacant home was previously damaged by fires in November and December 2023, and three times in 2024 — on Oct.16, Oct. 27 and again in November, according to the city.Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.The city encourages anyone who sees a person entering or removing boards from a vacant building to call 911, or contact 311 if they see boarded windows or doors that have been breached.
