Macdonald Bridge will be closed this weekend.Halifax Harbour Bridges announced on Thursday that the Macdonald will be closed to all traffic, pedestrians and cyclists from 8 p.m. on Friday until 5:30 a.m. Monday.Officials said the closure is to allow crews to remove the overhead platform and sidewalk shed that’s being used at the Dartmouth Tower. Crews had been working on Phase 1 of Project LifeSpan, which is meant to preserve the bridge’s steel towers.They also said travellers should plan ahead, especially on Saturday night for the Halifax Mooseheads home opener at the Scotiabank Centre.Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to pick up free Halifax Transit tickets — up to four per person — at the Macdonald Administration Building on Wyse Road in Dartmouth starting Thursday. Officials say tickets will be available through the weekend.The MacKay Bridge will be open as usual.
