(Kirk Fraser/CBC)Two men have been charged in connection with what police are now calling a targeted shooting that left 23 bullets in the side of a home in Regina’s Eastview community and seriously injured an 11-year-old girl.In an interview with CBC News on Wednesday, the girl’s father recalled the night of the August incident that he said still felt like it was all a bad “dream.” CBC News is not naming the father due to concerns he has for his safety and the safety of his family. The father said sometime after 1 a.m. on Aug. 11, he was asleep next to his wife when bullets began to pierce through the side of his home on the corner of the lot. “One hit [the] bed frame, second one went through the mattress, the third one went over us,” he said. The father said his wife panicked and started screaming as she ran around the room. He told her to sit down. “We don’t know if he’s still going to shoot. But if they shoot while they’re screaming, running around, you might get hurt,” he remembered telling his wife.As the wife sat down, more bullets came. Bullet holes are still visible on the side of the home that was shot at on Aug. 11 in Regina’s Eastview neighbourhood. (Will Draper/CBC)The father said a total of 23 bullets hit their home that night, with one entering his daughter’s bedroom. “It hit her side,” he said, as he motioned to a spot at the top left area of his rib cage. Their daughter was rushed to hospital in Regina where she had emergency surgery. The father said she was later transported by aircraft to Saskatoon, where doctors inserted a chest tube and treated her for internal injuries.”She couldn’t breathe even,” he said. “She was sleeping all the time because of medication.”Their daughter had a long recovery, said the father. Once the chest tubes were pulled out, though, he said she “started walking right away.”The father said five weeks after the incident, they are living with a family friend and his daughter is already back in school and doing well.’She was just so little’Muhammad Ishaq, a neighbour and good friend of the family since 2020, said the incident shocked the community and incited some fear.”Everybody feels unsafe,” he said. “We didn’t expect this would happen here.”Muhammad Ishaq, a neighbour to the family whose home was shot at, says the incident was ‘just horrible.’ (Will Draper/CBC)Ishaq said he was alone at home the night of the shooting, which “was just horrible.” He recalled seeing the red and blue flashing lights. He said when he looked out the window he saw a handful of police and emergency responders parked at his friend’s house where they were bringing out a little girl on a stretcher. Ishaq said he has known the injured girl since she was little, and his daughter used to play with her. He said he couldn’t imagine the trauma that will be left with her after the shooting.”She was just so little,” he said. “Nobody wants to have their kids going through something like that.”Ishaq said many people in the neighborhood have installed security cameras as police continue to investigate the incident.”It’s good to know that the guys involved have been arrested and charged,” he said. “Why [was there] so much hatred in their mind or heart … especially [for the] kids.”2 men charged, police still investigatingOn Wednesday, Regina police announced two men have been charged in connection to the Aug. 11 shooting on the 1000 block of Edgar Street.
