Article contentArticle contentHe pointed out that while some contracts began before the four regional health authorities were merged, many of the same senior staff who were there then are still working with NLHS today.Article contentThe review will now focus on those very issues — how the health authority is governed, how money is managed, and how staff decisions are made — to make sure all of the Auditor General’s recommendations are followed through.Article contentWhat will the review do? Article contentThe review, which has already begun, will be carried out over the next two years. It was commissioned by the Department of Health and Community Services, but will be led by an executive lead and committee. Article contentWhile the main goal is to strengthen governance, accountability and operational structure, another hope of the Department is to strengthen the trust the public has in NLHS. Article contentArticle contentAccording to the Department of Health and Community Services, the review is mandated to do six things: Article contentArticle contentEngage stakeholders for inclusivity and transparency.Strengthen governance and accountability structures.Enhance transparency, oversight, and compliance.Identify efficiencies, reduce administrative costs, and redirect resources to front-line care.Ensure directives from the Minister and Premier are completed.Oversee full implementation of the Auditor General’s recommendations.Article contentHow will the review be done? Article contentThe Department of Health and Community Services says it will employ the review through four avenues. Article contentThey include jurisdictional scans and comparative analysis, comprehensive document review, stakeholder engagement and the coordination of independent, third-party reviews.Article contentThe department said that it would explore other methods as needed.
