(CBC)The province is warning of three new measles exposure sites in Winkler, Man., including at a local high school. Anyone who was at Garden Valley Collegiate at 736 Main St. between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Sept. 15, 16 or 18, is asked to monitor for symptoms until Oct. 7, 8 and 10 respectively, a Tuesday news release said.The province is also warning anyone who was at the Real Canadian Superstore at 175 Cargill Rd. in Winkler from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sept. 15  to monitor for symptoms until Oct. 7.And anyone who was at the Winkler Evangelical Mennonite Mission Church at 600 Southview Dr. on Sept. 18 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. is asked to monitor for symptoms until Oct 10.Public Health is also advising anyone who was at the possible exposure sites during those times to check their immunization records and ensure they are up to date with the measles vaccine.Unvaccinated people born in 1970 or later who have never had measles and have been exposed should watch for symptoms and avoid exposing others, particularly those with weaker immune systems, from five to 21 days after exposure, the province says. The province also recommends the vaccine for people in that group.As of Sept. 13, there had been 204 confirmed cases and another 16 probable cases of measles in Manitoba this year.Measles is highly infectious and spreads through droplets in the air, formed when coughing or sneezing. An infected person can spread the virus from four days before the rash appears until four days after that.Symptoms generally appear seven to 21 days after exposure, and may include a fever, runny nose, drowsiness and red eyes. Small white spots can also appear on the inside of the mouth or throat.A list with detailed information on the locations, times and days where the public might have been exposed to measles is available on the province’s website.
