(Submitted by Kyla Loane and Tracy O’Handley)A 23-year-old man has pleaded guilty to two charges of impaired driving causing death in a car crash two years ago on a rural road near Windsor, N.S., that took the lives of two passengers and injured a third.The trial for Drake Robert Brown on a series of charges in the case was supposed to begin this week in provincial court in Kentville, N.S., but he instead pleaded guilty to three offences on Monday.The two counts of impaired driving causing death relate to victims Brayden Lemmon, 20, and Victoria Cousins, 20. Brown also pleaded guilty to impaired driving causing bodily harm related to a passenger, Dimitry Church, who survived. Brown is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 9.Lemmon and Cousins were killed Aug. 24, 2023, when the Chevrolet Monte Carlo they were in hit a Ford F-150 pickup at around 10:50 p.m. on Highway 14 in Windsor Forks, N.S.On Monday, Associate Chief Judge Ronda van der Hoek, at the request of the defence, ordered that a Gladue report be prepared for Brown. Such pre-sentence reports examine the backgrounds of Indigenous offenders.The judge thanked Brown for “taking responsibility” for the crime.
