(RCMP/Submitted)A southeast New Brunswick man accused of attempting to impersonate an RCMP officer and possessing stolen police equipment is seeking bail next week after his November trial was rescheduled to early next year. Daniel Ray Downey, 58, of Pointe-du-Chêne has entered not guilty pleas to 22 charges and was scheduled to stand trial on Nov. 25 and Nov. 27. Downey appeared in Moncton provincial court Thursday. Court staff confirmed Downey now has a bail hearing set for Oct. 1, and his trial was moved to Jan. 21-22. The trial was rescheduled at the request of the Crown prosecutor.Downey has elected to be tried in provincial court, meaning the case will be heard by a judge alone.The charges were laid against Downey in August after police were called about a man allegedly planning to commit crimes while impersonating an RCMP officer.RCMP said searches of two properties in Pointe-du-Chêne led to officers seizing two firearms, pieces of police uniforms, a Ford Taurus, radios, lights and sirens. Downey has yet to enter a plea on a charge alleging an arson in 2023.
