Cornwall to host extra police trainee course

(Tijana Martin/The Canadian Press)Ontario is turning to Cornwall to host an extra police constable training course that the province says will add 121 more recruits this fall.In a news release Friday, the province said the course will be held at the DEV centre in the eastern Ontario city from early October until mid-December.The program will run in conjunction with the Ontario Police College in Aylmer, near London, and will train a total of 641 recruits this fall instead of 520.Ontario Solitor General Michael Kerzner, who’s making the announcement in Cornwall on Friday, said in the news release the program is “the critical first step in the journey to become a police officer in this province.”It includes courses in law, ethics, de-escalation, firearms and mental health. The Progressive Conservative government started covering tuition costs for its students in 2023.
