(Scandvik Hotels)Construction of a long-anticipated Nordic spa and hotel in Saskatoon’s Willows neighbourhood is on track to break ground in 2026, according to Scandvik Hotels president Travis Batting.Batting said that the 120-room Scandinavian-style wellness hotel and spa will overlook the 15th hole of the Rob Carrick–designed golf course at the Willows. He said more details will be made public soon.”We’ll soon announce our major hotel brand affiliation, project details and timelines,” Batting said in an email.Scandvik Hotels previously told CBC construction of the hotel and spa would take 18 months. On Wednesday, city council unanimously approved adjustments to the Willows Neighbourhood Concept Plan to accommodate the spa.Scandvik Hotels is proposing an adult-only spa with outdoor thermal and cold plunge pools, saunas, steam rooms, treatment and meditation rooms, and fitness and relaxation spaces.Scandvik Hotels is is proposing a Scandinavian Boutique Wellness Hotel & Nordic Spa at the Willows Golf Community in Saskatoon. (Scandvik Hotels)The proposal first came up in January 2021 and drew backlash from Willows residents. Some argued the project would disrupt the neighbourhood’s peace. Others worried that the value of their homes could be undermined, due to potential loss of unobstructed views. Opposition had grown so strong at the time that council unanimously decided to reject the project at the time.The project received initial zoning approval in 2023.
