(Nancy Antoine/Facebook)One man is dead and another seriously injured following a two-vehicle crash on Vancouver Island’s Highway 4 Saturday afternoon.Oceanside RCMP says an eastbound Honda Civic “appeared to have lost control on a series of curves where it impacted with a westbound Chevy Impala.”The Civic was “engulfed” in flames and the driver died on the scene, while the driver of the Impala, a 70-year-old man from Alberta, was taken to hospital with “potentially life-threatening injuries.”Police have not confirmed the current condition of the injured driver, as of Monday morning.RCMP have not identifed the person killed in the crash, but family members say it was 20-year-old Nick Antoine.In Facebook posts, and in an interview with CHEK News, his mother Nancy Antoine says he was traveling to Sooke to play bass in a band he had joined.”My son was chasing his dreams,” she wrote on social media.Separately, the band Dead Ahead issued a statement Monday confirming their bass player had died.”Nick wasn’t just a good guy, he was a great young man,” a Facebook post from the band reads. “All of my love goes out to his family, friends and everyone who had him in their lives,” it continues, with the post being written by the band’s founder.RCMP say although the investigation is in its early stages, they believe speed and road conditions may have played a role.
