The rest are all volunteers.”Article contentThe volunteer recruitment effort in Yarmouth has been going pretty well, Surette says.Article contentArticle content“We’re getting a lot of people from the area. We’re hoping to get people from the church as well,” he says. “We will be working out of their kitchen, so we’re hoping some of the people from their congregation join in with us.”Article contentThe Yarmouth drop-in centre will be the eighth one in Nova Scotia operated by Soul’s Harbour Rescue Mission. A ninth location in Dartmouth is scheduled to open Oct. 21.Article contentSurette says there is a possibility of adding a free store to the Yarmouth drop-in centre down the road, which is offered at other drop-in centres in the province. The free stores provide free clothing and personal care items to those in need.Article content“We want to get in with our food first, then look at what our options are for being able to provide that to individuals as well,” says Surette.Article content“We’re looking forward to opening in Yarmouth and being able to provide good home-cooked meals to people in need and work with the other organizations that are in Yarmouth to help meet the need there for people who are experiencing food insecurity.”Article contentAnyone interested in volunteering at the new drop-in centre can sign up online at soulsharbour.ca.Article content
