(Robert Short/CBC)The Nova Scotia government has awarded a tender for the development of a master plan for the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax.International firm BDP Quadrangle — which has expertise in health-care design — and partner FBM Architecture Ltd. will work with Nova Scotia Health, Build Nova Scotia and the Department of Health and Wellness to assess existing buildings and services and identify ways to make improvements. The QEII complex includes 10 buildings at two sites — the Halifax Infirmary, Camp Hill Veterans Memorial and Abbie J. Lane Memorial at the Halifax Infirmary site, and the Nova Scotia Rehabilitation Centre, the Centre for Clinical Research, and the Bethune, Mackenzie, Dickson, Victoria and Centennial buildings at the Victoria General site.”I think there are some ideas about what could happen in terms of this planning that’s happening but it is important — as has happened with the current redevelopment — that staff and stakeholders and patients and families have an opportunity to weigh in on some of the things that they’d like to see,” Nova Scotia Health Minister Michelle Thompson told CBC News.”And so certainly that’s been a very effective process with the Halifax Infirmary expansion project, including mock-ups of rooms for people to be able to come in and work in.”Thompson said the request for proposal, issued in April, was valued at $1.6 million. In a news release on Wednesday, the province said it expects the firms will complete their work in early 2027.With files from Michael Gorman
