(ginoogamingfn.ca)People in Ginoogaming First Nation in northwestern Ontario continue to shelter in place as a search for two armed individuals has surpassed 24 hours. Ontario Provincial Police are urging the public to remain vigilant.The first police alert about two armed and dangerous individuals believed to be at large was issued early Wednesday morning. Police describe the suspects as Black males: one may be  wearing a grey jogging suit and has braided hair, and the other could be wearing black pants and black shoes.“Motorists travelling on Highway 11 near Longlac and Ginoogaming First Nation are advised to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary stops. If you see the suspects, do not approach them and call 911 immediately,” the latest OPP update said.“The OPP recognizes the concern and anxiety this situation may cause. Every precaution is being taken to ensure public safety and bring the situation to a safe resolution.”College, other schools closedAs the search continues, police say schools in Longlac and Long Lake #58 First Nation will remain closed. That includes Confederation College Longlac Campus and the following: Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School.Marjorie Mills Public School.École Notre-Dame-de-Fatima.École secondaire Château-Jeunesse.Migizi Wazisin Elementary School.Migizi Miigwanan Secondary School.The Superior Greenstone District School Board said all student transportation involving Longlac and Ginoogaming is also cancelled for the day.“The safety and security of our students, staff and families remain our top priority.  We continue to work closely with police and local authorities and will provide updates as new information becomes available,” said a school board statement.Nishnawbe Aski Nation officials are expected to hold a news conference later Thursday afternoon in Thunder Bay.In a statement, officials say leaders will address urgent issues related to policing, justice and community safety with “the backdrop of the unfolding situation in Ginoogaming First Nation.”The news conference will be live streamed online.
