(Alex Kozroski/CBC)The City of Martensville is advising residents to be wary of bats, after receiving a report of a bat biting a person in the community, just north of Saskatoon.The city posted on social media that it learned on Wednesday that a resident had been bitten multiple times on the neck by a bat. It isn’t clear when the person was bitten, but the city said the resident has received the rabies vaccine.The post speculated that the bat may have been protecting its young.Bats are known carriers of rabies, which is usually transmitted through a bite. Once a person begins showing symptoms, the disease nearly always causes death.Last week, the City of Warman, just east of Martensville, warned its residents to avoid contact with bats after an animal found there tested positive for rabies. The City of Martensville’s post suggested avoiding any contact with bats, and ensuring pets and children are kept safe from wildlife.
