The opening faceoff is at noon in New Glasgow, N.S.The Atlantic champion will represent the region at the Esso Cup Canadian under-18 female championship in Lloydminster, Alta., from April 20 to 26.In Port Hawkesbury, N.S., the Tyne Valley-based Western Rebels will face the host Cabot Highlanders at noon to decide the Maritime under-16 AAA hockey champion.In all three regional championship tournaments, teams receive three points for a win in regulation time, two points for an overtime win and one point for an overtime loss.KENSINGTON WILDAfter earning a 6-3 regulation-time win over Nova Scotia’s Halifax McDonalds before a near-capacity crowd on April 4, the Wild secured a spot in the final when the Flyers defeated Newfoundland and Labrador’s East Coast Blizzard 10-1 in the first game of the day on April 5.Article contentThe Flyers defeated the Wild 6-1 in the final round-robin game in the evening on April 5 to decide first place.Moncton completed round-robin play with a record of 3-0-1 (won-lost-overtime losses) and 10 points. Kensington (2-1-1) and Halifax (3-1-0) were tied for second with seven points, but the Wild won the tiebreaker when two teams are tied – winner of the head-to-head meeting.The P.E.I. representative, Charlottetown Island Coastal Knights, finished 1-3-0 while the Blizzard completed play 1-2-1.After spotting the Wild a 1-0 lead, the Flyers scored six unanswered goals. Marc MacPhee (1-2), Jaxon Somers (1-2), Nathan Weber (1-2), Caleb Cyr (1-1), Simon Bourque (1-1) and Malik Bourque-Vigneault (1-1) scored for the Flyers.Derek Andrews, assisted by Drew Murphy and Luke Inman, scored for Kensington.Winning goaltender Simon Cormier stopped 15 of 16 shots.
