Ottawa police said they were called to the scene around 3:40 p.m. on Presland Road around Lola Street. Paramedics told CBC the child was under the age of 10 and was struck by a dump truck. Life-saving measures were performed on scene by responding officers but the child later died in hospital, according to police. No other injuries were reported. The crash happened in a residential area about four kilometres east of the city core. There are construction signs warning of roadwork and a pedestrian detour in the area.
