(Submitted by Manitoba RCMP)RCMP are renewing calls for the public’s help in finding a woman who went missing from southeastern Manitoba two years ago.Ywanna (Jean) Backman was last seen on Oct. 13, 2023. She was last in touch with a friend two days later.Mounties couldn’t find Backman, who was 70 at the time, at her home in the rural municipality of Piney on Oct. 19, 2023, after getting a request to check on her well-being.Backman’s disappearance triggered an extensive ground search that brought together residents, volunteers and several specialized RCMP units, RCMP said in a news release Friday. The Manitoba Integrated Missing Persons Coordination Centre has investigated a number of tips and done interviews since Backman went missing, but authorities haven’t found her yet, RCMP said. “This is a case that’s out of the ordinary,” RCMP Cpl. Melanie Russell told CBC News. “We need to find closure.… It is hard to live an everyday life not knowing what happened to your mother.” Ywanna (Jean) Backman is pictured on Oct. 11, 2023, just days before she was last seen.
