(Trevor Brine/CBC)Another alleged assault by a group of teen girls has led to more charges at a Winnipeg high school.Three teenagers face assault-related charges after two separate incidents involving two different teen girls at Oak Park High School, Winnipeg police confirmed Monday afternoon.Last week, CBC News reported that a mother said her 14-year-old daughter was bullied and beaten by a group of teenage girls inside a bathroom at Oak Park High School on Oct. 2.Two people were arrested Oct. 6 in connection with the incident, police said at the time, but they wouldn’t release any other information in order to protect the identity of the victim. However, the mother of the 14-year-old did speak to CBC News, saying a group of five girls accused her daughter of saying something negative about them. They then made fun of her Ukrainian accent and her appearance before beating her, the mother alleges. On Monday, the woman — whom CBC is not identifying in order to protect her daughter’s privacy — said she was shocked to find out about a similar assault on another Ukrainian teen that allegedly occurred the day before her daughter was attacked.”I’m so sorry that other family, other Ukrainian family, go[ing] through [it], because I totally understand this is so hard,” the mother said.Pembina Trails School Division spokesperson Radean Carter confirmed police investigated two incidents, one from Oct. 1 and the other from Oct. 2, and charges have been laid in both cases. She didn’t say how many charges have been laid or how many students have been charged. Police previously told CBC News that two girls were arrested in connection with the Oct. 2 incident. CBC has reached out to police to ask about the Oct. 1 incident but has not yet received a response. The mother of the 14-year-old said she was angry and spoke to the principal and superintendents, asking why they didn’t do anything after the first incident. Her daughter learned about the first incident from other students shortly after she was assaulted, the woman said.’I’m nervous’Carter said both the Oct. 1 and Oct. 2 incidents were reported to the school on Oct. 3.”It’s not supposed to be like this,” the mother who spoke to the CBC said. “I didn’t sleep at all for the last two weeks. We are under stress because this is your kids. This is your priority to protect them. And I’m so sorry to other family.”The school is working on a safety plan for her daughter, which includes changing class schedules and forbidding the alleged attackers from having contact with the girl, the mother said.”I hope that teachers and principal will be able to keep this situation under control for safety. [It] feels like they are doing what they need to now,” the woman said.”But of course, I’m nervous.”She gave her daughter the option of changing schools, but her daughter refused.”She loves this school. She has a lot of friends from school,” the woman said. “I hope everything will be fine.”CorrectionsA previous version of this story said the Oct. 1 incident was reported to the school on Oct. 9. Pembina Trails School Division later told CBC News it was, in fact, reported on Oct. 3.Oct 20, 2025 8:12 PM EDTWith files from Meaghan Ketcheson
